The RIM Blackberry Curve 8520 has been introduced into the market. This makes a good addition to the Blackberry family after the decent success of Blackberry 8900. It has all the features that a standard mobile phone would offer which include vibrating alert, call timer, conference call functionality, SMS, MMS, and voice recording. The catchy element is the voice-activated dialing. The device has a speaker phone, and the Bluetooth 2.0 enables easier communication using Bluetooth wireless headset while travelling. It also enables dial-up networking. The model is also supported by quad-band roaming.
The phone includes a 2 megapixel camera with all the essential features for taking pictures and video recording. The maximum resolution available is 320×240, adorned by an array of 65,000 colors.  Blackberry Curve 8520 has a still, clear and bright display despite the low resolution. Files of all formats likeBMP, JPG, TIF, PNG and WBMP are easily supported by the phone’s photo viewer. The embedded digital player supports AAC, AMR, MP3, and WMA, AAC +, eAAC+ and WMAPro. It comes with a 256MB Flash ROM installed. Since this limits the storage facility, there is a 1 GB SD card that comes along with the package.

The QWERTY keyboard makes mail handling a much easier task. The innovative feature that will surely attract users is the Trackpad. The Trackball used in the earlier Blackberry models has been replaced by the Trackpad to make navigation more comfortable.  Just above the keyboard dedicated keys are set to control music and video playback files. There are ports/slots for headphone jack and USB on the side of the device for added functionality.

As far as networking is concerned, you can get everything you desire. The integrated Wi-Fi provides the option of web browsing. The Blackberry App World enables you to connect to Facebook, Flickr, MySpace and instant messaging clients like Yahoo, Google Talk and the like. Using the Attachments viewer, text and image files can be opened.
The phone works on GSM technology. The design is a sleek body measuring 4.3 inches tall and 2.3 inches wide. It is 0.5 inches thin and weighs only 3.7 ounces. It has a display of 2.46 inches and comes in black color with a soft- touch finish. The phone is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with a talk time of 4.5 hours. In stand by mode the battery can be on the run for about 17 days.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 package includes an AC adapter, USB cable, a 1 GB microSD card, a wired stereo headset, and a software CD. The phone is priced at $129.99 (with a two-year contract) and can be ordered online through T-Mobile. At Wal-Mart, you can steal a deal at just $48.88 with a two-year new agreement or qualified upgrade.

Though not at par with the Blackberry 8900, the Blackberry Curve 8520 definitely has the kind of features to sustain in the market. The only drawback about the Blackberry Curve 8520 is that it does not support 3G and GPS. However, considering the core functionalities delivered it surely is a perfect fit for those who wish to foray into the world of smart phones.
